Active Physically
Active Physically
Being an active person entails a multitude of different avenues. First and foremost, an active person is active physically, meaning this person values the importance of being physically fit. This person actually craves the escape doing a workout provides them with. Have you ever noticed that when you are in the middle of an intense workout you can't really hear or think about anything? Your mind is shut off from the things of the world, and with that an escape is provided. We as addicts seem to constantly be thinking in one way or another. Sometimes we are up, other times we are down. We are constantly thinking of how we can have a better time, or how we can be happier. With that being said, it’s interesting to think that during an intense workout we can actually escape and think about nothing. We can actually provide relief from ourselves for a time, which then can lead to an incredible experience; an experience that can even manipulate our mood.I had an experience not long ago on a Sunday night where I felt anxious, and was looking for any excuse to give into the temptation of the Dragon. I couldn't get a single positive thought in my head. I was being short with my wife, my kids, and all of them could tell something was wrong. It was roughly 9pm on a summer Sunday night, and I felt I had to do something or I was going to go crazy. By my house there is a nature park that has a beautiful secluded track that meanders through the woods. One lap around this track is roughly 1 mile. I decided I was going to go down to the nature park on the brink of darkness, and go for a run.As I started my run I still felt negative and anxious. As I made it about halfway around the track I felt my mood being lifted and I started to notice the beauty surrounding the summer night. The sunset was incredible, and the light of day was barely hanging on.As I got further into my run my mood changed even more. I started thinking about how cool this experience was, and how thankful I was for the opportunity to come and jog in such beauty. As I started my second lap I decided I was going to pick up the pace a bit and challenge myself. My legs and my lungs started to burn, but my mind pushed through. The positive thinking increased even more, in which I felt charged, confident, and in control of myself, which was an incredible feeling at the time because I hadn't felt in control of myself all day. I started thinking about my family and how much I loved and cared about them. I started thinking about the example that I need to be to them and all who surround me.Now I'm on my third lap and I can see life again. My brain feels back on track, and recharged. I push it through the third lap and end up at my Jeep - pacing and breathing heavy. The last hundred yards to my Jeep was a full on sprint. As I'm breathing hard and recovering from the three mile run, I looked about as the last bit of day light slowly faded, and I realized that I was happy. In a sense, I was high, but it was a real high. It wasn’t a high that I wanted to chase. It wasn’t a high that I was going to come down from. It was as high as human being can get naturally, and it was beautiful. I now went home and was a better father, husband, and all around person just by going out and getting a little exercise under my belt. Being physically active is the key ingredient to living a healthy, happy, successful life.-HawkClick Here to go to the: WAR GYM EXPERIENCE
