Immaturity

Immaturity

Drug addiction creates immaturity. It creates immaturity in speech; it creates immaturity in thinking; it creates immaturity in doing; it creates immaturity in acting; and most importantly, it creates immaturity in the way the addicted perceive themselves- and life in general. The reason for this immaturity is because life gets put on hold for the addict. Where everyone else who isn't addicted goes throughout their day feeling stress, sadness, boredom, depression and anxiety, the addict masks all of these feelings, where he or she hides. They could go on like this for years, never feeling anything; a problem arises that may cause stress, they hide; depression sets in, they hide; adversity strikes, they hide; any life struggle that may require work or being uncomfortable, they hide, and continue on in hiding. Then when the addicted associates with family and friends who haven't been hiding they come off as immature in all of the ways aforementioned. Their speech comes off as being vulgar and uneducated; their appearance is unhealthy and unique; the way they dress is sloppy and outdated. They have, in a sense, become trapped in a dark world; a world that has never allowed them to progress, where they've actually regressed in all aspects of their so called hidden life. This world becomes a safe routine, where in their mind no advancement is necessary because it's all about getting high and not having to feel anything. They have found ways to eek by financially by flipping their drug of choice in an effort to continue on in feeding their own habit, and to also make a little extra money for food, cigarettes, and maybe a utility bill. The longer they go on in this dark world, the further their motivation to make any real change starts to fade. As mentioned before, it's now just easy for them to accept who they have become, and that this just may in fact be the definite life they are going to lead. Thoughts of changing do still creep into their mind from time to time, however, these thoughts are now far and few between. The years of being clouded then causing immaturity has led them to a misconceived perception on how to succeed in every day life. They may even feel like they are qualified for a good paying job; a job similar to one they may have had in the past, prior to their addiction; they almost feel like they could hop right back into that career they had seven years ago, picking back up right where they left off; however, this is in fact a lie because their appearance and immaturity in character is apparent to all who associate with them, including the job interviewer. They don't realize that this isn't a quick fix. They don't realize that if they have gone almost a decade in hiding, that it's going to take just as long to get caught back up to everyone else's maturity level, that is - if they have the patience to endure through the tough times that lay ahead. What would make them think that this would all be a quick fix?-  For it's the immaturity in that thought itself that would have them believe so.-HawkCheck out todays Gym Experience
