The Daily Experience 12/2/14

Dmitry @klokovd Klokov (~110kg, Russia) snatching 180kg/396lb, 190kg/418lb and 200kg/440lb in the training hall at the 2014 WWC. He hasn't competed int'lly in about three years but he says he'll be making a decision in April about potentially making a run at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. It seems unlikely that he will but I wouldn't 100% write off the idea of a comeback quite yet. Earlier today, he released an ebook on JTS (google for jts store). I've done a quick review of the book (not a careful reading at all) and it is largely an autobiography of his weightlifting career through the 2008 Olympic Games. The end of the autobiography section hints that it will be continued in a future book. He does talk about training, injuries, coaches and so on -- but he doesn't get into the nitty gritty of his actual "training system" in the autobiography portion of the book. It's stories about things that happened in his career. That being said, if you're a weightlifting fan, it's very interesting to get an inside look at how things like Olympic selections happen in the Russian system. Outside of the autobiography section, there are 16 videos (ranging in length) in which Dmitry goes over an exercise or drill that he finds to be important for weightlifting. Each video also has several written cues/tips along with it to help you avoid common errors and to explain the reason for the exercise. Overall, if you are looking for intricate breakdowns of various types of programs, training cycles and how many sets to do of what exercise at what percentage -- you will not find it in this book. But I recommend getting the book if you are looking for stories or for some tips and video explanations of various exercises that Klokov finds to be important.
